# Evict your competitor — the pettiest $1 in marketing

Somewhere on Square Town ([square.pov.town](/)) your competitor's favicon is sitting on a square, quietly collecting kisses. Square Town's rulebook has exactly two things to say about that, and both of them cost double what your competitor paid — which, since squares are free to claim, usually means **$1**.

## Move one: evict them and take the spot 💀

The classic. Click their favicon, press **Evict**, pay double what they paid — $1 if they claimed free — and their square is yours: your URL, your favicon, their old coordinates. The live feed announces it to every open browser ("💀 you.com evicted them.com for $1"), they get an eviction notice by email, and their deed page gets an EVICTED stamp with thoughts and prayers.

The catch is symmetry: the feed names you, and the next eviction — theirs, say — costs double *your* price. Eviction is a public move in a doubling game. That's the fun of it, and also the bill. [The economics of eviction](/blog/economics-of-eviction) covers when the ladder stops being funny.

## Move two: bulldoze them and take nothing 🚜

New in town, and considerably pettier. **Bulldozing** costs exactly what an eviction costs — 2× what they paid, $1 minimum — but you place no URL, no email, no name. They're evicted all the same; nobody moves in; the empty lot goes straight back on the market at **$0**, claimable by anyone. Including them.

Three things make this the connoisseur's option:

1. **It's anonymous.** The feed says "🚜 Somebody paid $4 to bulldoze them.com" — and *somebody* is all anyone will ever learn. No favicon points back at you, no square of yours enters the ladder, nothing to retaliate against.
2. **It resets the ladder.** An empty lot is a free claim, so the $8 square they were proud of becomes a $0 square anyone can squat. You're paying for the eviction, not the land.
3. **It's repeatable.** They can move back in for free — and you can bulldoze them again, at $1 a round from then on (they claimed free, remember). A dollar per demolition is the cheapest recurring joke on the internet.

## How to do it, in four clicks

1. Find them. Use the wall's search, or `GET /api/search?q=their-domain` if you're the scripting kind.
2. Click their favicon. Their card opens: views, clicks, kisses, and at the bottom, in red, the two moves.
3. Pick your move — **Evict** (paste your URL and email) or **Bulldoze** (paste nothing; there is literally no form).
4. Pay. Stripe Checkout, one-time, card. The square is reserved for 30 minutes while you type digits, so no one can snipe it mid-checkout.

Done. The feed does the announcing; you do the sitting back.

## What your competitor experiences

Their favicon vanishes from the wall in front of every open browser. The feed posts the 💀 or 🚜 line. They receive an eviction notice at the address they claimed with — one of the only two mails Square Town ever sends, the other being your deed — which, for a bulldoze, includes the sentence *"They didn't move in — they just wanted you gone"* and a link to reclaim the empty lot for free. Their deed page survives as a monument, stamped EVICTED, still showing every kiss they ever collected.

Then, in all likelihood, they come back. Squares are free; grudges are $1. This is the game working as designed.

## A word on strategy (and one on manners)

Evict when the *location* matters — the ring around the Throne's aura, a corner of the launch 16×16, the cell beside a famous domain. You're buying real estate; put your name on it. Bulldoze when the *absence* matters — you don't want the square, you want their icon off it, or you want their $16 ladder position vaporised back to $0. And remember the wall's only real defence: every eviction doubles the next price, so anything worth fighting over prices itself out of the fight within a few rounds.

As for manners: this is a $1 game on a favicon wall, played in a public feed with confetti. Depose your rivals, reclaim your lot, bulldoze the same square twice before breakfast — that's all rulebook. The rulebook is the whole agreement, and it's two moves long.

## FAQ

### How much does it cost to evict or bulldoze a competitor?
Both cost double what the current owner paid, with a $1 minimum. A free-claimed square is $1; one that's been fought over doubles each round. Prices are computed server-side — see [pricing](/pricing).

### Is bulldozing really anonymous?
The wall, the feed, the API and the victim's email all say "somebody". Stripe processes the card, as with any payment, but no URL, email or name enters Square Town.

### Can they just come back after a bulldoze?
Yes — the lot reopens at $0 and their notice links straight to it. You bought an absence, not a ban. You can also bulldoze them again.

### Can I protect my own square from all this?
