# Square Town

> A favicon wall where every square is $1. Paste a URL, we grab your favicon, you own a square of internet real estate — until someone evicts you for double.

Square Town (https://square.pov.town) is a favicon wall — a shared, live, 3D grid of tiny squares where each 1×1 square costs US$1, one time, and shows the favicon of a website. You paste a URL, Square Town fetches the site's favicon automatically (nothing to upload, no account, no subscription), you click an empty cell to pick your spot, pay $1 via Stripe, and you own that square. Clicking a square on the wall sends visitors to the site behind it.

Key facts:
- Price: $1 per square, one-time. Every square is 1×1; there are no sizes to choose. Optional $5 one-time unlock for per-day view/click analytics on your deed page.
- The Throne: the 4×4 dead centre of the wall, one owner, intro price $100. Evicting the owner costs double the last price, and every eviction doubles it again.
- Evictions: any square can be taken by paying double what its current owner paid; the evicted site is announced in the live feed. The next evictor pays double again, so prices escalate.
- Kiss the icon: an icon that goes 90 days without being "kissed" fades to grayscale. Anyone can kiss any icon, free.
- Ring unlocking: only the central 16×16 is live at launch; each time the live area is 70% full it grows by 8 cells in every direction, up to 1024×1024 (1,048,576 squares).
- Hall of Clowns: sites with no favicon get a 🤡 until they add one.
- Live and 3D: every buy, eviction and kiss is pushed to all open browsers over WebSockets; ctrl+drag tilts the wall into 3D where each favicon becomes a tower whose height is its click count.
- Deeds: ownership is a secret deed URL (no accounts). Views and clicks are counted per square.
- Built on Cloudflare Workers, D1 and one Durable Object; runs on the free tier so "forever" is credible.
