Square Town (square.pov.town) is a favicon wall: $1 buys one 1×1 square on a live 3D grid, Square Town fetches your favicon, and anyone can evict you for double. The difference is static ownership with a crypto angle versus a card-only wall with a game loop.

What Million Squares Project does well#

Blocks and GIFs. Drag-select as many squares as you want and fill the block with an image — or an animated GIF. That is a more expressive canvas than a 16-pixel favicon. If you want your square to move, this is the one that lets it.

Permanent. No eviction, no decay. Pay once and the block is yours.

A founders' list. The Hall of Founders records early buyers. Being #12 on a wall is a status you keep. Square Town's equivalent is the leaderboards — most clicked, most kissed — which reward activity rather than being early.

What Square Town does differently#

Favicon, not upload. Paste a URL and Square Town fetches the favicon via Google's favicon service. There is no image, no GIF, no drag-select. This is deliberately less expressive and requires zero work; a site with no favicon gets a clown emoji and a place in the Hall of Clowns.

One size. Every square is 1×1. You can buy several, and they don't have to touch, but you cannot make yours bigger than anyone else's. Standing out means position, click height and kisses.

Ownership can change hands. Anyone can evict any square by paying double its last price: $1 → $2 → $4. The Throne — the 4×4 dead centre — starts at $100 and doubles with every eviction. Nothing on Million Squares Project can be taken from you; that is its promise and also why it is static.

Live and 3D. Buys, evictions, kisses and unlocks reach every open browser over WebSockets. Ctrl+drag tilts the wall into 3D, where each favicon is a tower whose height is its click count.

Analytics per square. After buying you get a secret deed URL with views, clicks and kisses; $5 one-time unlocks per-day charts. The whole wall is readable as JSON at /api/state.
