Square Town vs Million Squares Project: static squares or evictions?
Nearly the same premise, at the same price, through the same payment processor. Then the roads fork.
Million Squares Project (millionsquaresproject.com) is a 2026 pixel wall: $1 per square via Stripe, forever, on a 1000×1000 grid where you drag-select a block and place an image or GIF that links out, with a Hall of Founders and a tie-in to the $MSP memecoin. Square Town (square.pov.town) is a favicon wall: $1 buys one 1×1 square on a live 3D grid, Square Town fetches your favicon, and anyone can evict you for double. The difference is static ownership with a crypto angle versus a card-only wall with a game loop.

What Million Squares Project does well
Blocks and GIFs. Drag-select as many squares as you want and fill the block with an image — or an animated GIF. That is a more expressive canvas than a 16-pixel favicon. If you want your square to move, this is the one that lets it.
Permanent. No eviction, no decay. Pay once and the block is yours.
A founders' list. The Hall of Founders records early buyers. Being #12 on a wall is a status you keep. Square Town's equivalent is the leaderboards — most clicked, most kissed — which reward activity rather than being early.
A token community, if you want one. The $MSP memecoin ties the wall to a crypto audience that may show up for reasons beyond the grid. Square Town has no token and never will; payment is card via Stripe.
Same processor, same price. Both are $1 per square through Stripe, so the buying experience is close to identical up to the moment you own something.
What Square Town does differently
Favicon, not upload. Paste a URL and Square Town fetches the favicon via Google's favicon service. There is no image, no GIF, no drag-select. This is deliberately less expressive and requires zero work; a site with no favicon gets a clown emoji and a place in the Hall of Clowns.
One size. Every square is 1×1. You can buy several, and they don't have to touch, but you cannot make yours bigger than anyone else's. Standing out means position, click height and kisses.
Ownership can change hands. Anyone can evict any square by paying double its last price: $1 → $2 → $4. The Throne — the 4×4 dead centre — starts at $100 and doubles with every eviction. Nothing on Million Squares Project can be taken from you; that is its promise and also why it is static.
Decay unless kissed. An icon nobody has kissed for 90 days fades to grayscale until someone kisses it — free, anyone, public and counted. Dead sites fade; the wall doesn't slowly become a graveyard of dead links.
The wall never looks empty. Million Squares Project had 17 of 1,000,000 squares sold in our August 2026 check, on a full 1000×1000 canvas. Square Town only shows its live area: 16×16 at launch, growing by 8 cells in every direction each time it is 70 % full. Density is enforced by the ring-unlock rule.
Live and 3D. Buys, evictions, kisses and unlocks reach every open browser over WebSockets. Ctrl+drag tilts the wall into 3D, where each favicon is a tower whose height is its click count.
Analytics per square. After buying you get a secret deed URL with views, clicks and kisses; $5 one-time unlocks per-day charts. The whole wall is readable as JSON at /api/state.
No crypto. Not an NFT, no token, no wallet. Stripe, card, $1. That is a feature for one audience and a missing feature for another; we're clear about which audience we're for.

FAQ
How is Million Squares Project different from Square Town?
Both sell $1 squares via Stripe. Million Squares Project lets you drag-select a block and place an image or GIF, is permanent, has a Hall of Founders and ties into the $MSP memecoin. Square Town shows only your site's favicon, sells one 1×1 size, lets anyone evict you for double, fades un-kissed icons after 90 days, is live over WebSockets and can be viewed in 3D.
Is Square Town a crypto or NFT project?
No. Square Town is paid via Stripe (card), has no token, no NFT and no wallet. Million Squares Project accepts Stripe too but is tied to the $MSP memecoin.
Can I put a GIF on Square Town?
No. Square Town displays the favicon of the URL you paste, fetched via Google's favicon service. If the site has no favicon it gets a clown emoji until it does.
How many squares are sold on each?
As of August 2026, Million Squares Project had 17 of 1,000,000 squares sold. Square Town does not publish a running count in its content; the live number is in the public /api/state JSON. Square Town only shows its live area, which grows as it fills.
Can I lose my square on Square Town?
Yes. Anyone can evict you by paying double what you paid, and an icon nobody kisses for 90 days fades to grayscale (you still own it). Million Squares Project squares are permanent.
Does either give SEO value?
Square Town does not sell backlinks or link equity: the wall is a WebGL canvas and clicks go through a counted redirect. Buy a square for visibility, the game and the analytics. We make no claim about Million Squares Project's markup.
