Buy a square — $1

Pricing — $1 a square, one time, forever*

There is one price for a square and it's $1. Everything else on this page is what happens when people fight over it.

A square on Square Town (square.pov.town) costs $1, one-time, paid by card through Stripe. There are no sizes, no subscriptions, no accounts and no renewal. The Throne (the 4×4 centre) starts at $100. Evicting anyone costs double what they paid. A per-day analytics breakdown is a one-time $5. Kissing, viewing, rechecking your favicon, your deed page and the read API are free.

$1 per square, and that's the whole price list

Every square is a single 1×1 cell and costs 100 cents. You click the empty cell you want, paste a URL, and pay $1 on Stripe Checkout. There is no fee for choosing your coordinates (there used to be a knob for it; it's set to zero), no bigger blocks to upsell you into, and no monthly anything. Buy one square or buy several — one URL each, $1 each.

The buy dialog shows a "list price" and a stack of discounts (Tuesday, obviously; niceness discount, you seem nice). Nothing is applied. The total is always $1. It's a joke about pricing pages, on a pricing page.

Why $1: it's the price at which nobody has to think, which is what a wall for side projects needs. Longer answer in why one dollar.

The Throne: $100 to start, then it doubles

The Throne is the one 4×4 exception to "everything is 1×1": a gold tile with a crown at the exact centre, one owner. Its introductory price is $100. Once someone sits on it, the only way to get it is to evict them for double the last price — and every eviction doubles it again.

Throne holder What they paid What evicting them costs
1st $100 (intro) $200
2nd $200 $400
3rd $400 $800
4th $800 $1,600
5th $1,600 $3,200
6th $3,200 $6,400
2× the last 2× again

Nobody sets the Throne's price after the first sale; the sequence does. Read the Throne explained.

Eviction: always double the last price

Any paid square can be taken by paying twice what its current owner paid. That applies to ordinary squares and to the Throne alike; the multiplier is the same, only the starting number differs.

Step Who pays Amount Who gets evicted
Buy you $1 nobody — the cell was empty
1st eviction evictor A $2 you
2nd eviction evictor B $4 A
3rd eviction evictor C $8 B
4th eviction evictor D $16 C
5th eviction evictor E $32 D
10th eviction $1,024

The evictor pays their price to Square Town, takes the cell, and the feed announces the eviction to everyone. Prices are per square, so a square that has never been fought over is $2 to take, and one that's changed hands five times is $64. Popular spots price themselves out of casual grabbing within a handful of steps; unremarkable ones stay cheap. That's the design. See the economics of eviction.

$5 analytics unlock

Every square's card and deed already show its total views (someone opened its card), clicks (someone went to the site via /go/) and kisses, free. For $5, one-time, the deed page also shows views and clicks per day, kept forever. No subscription — the deed page literally says "who do you think we are?"

Everything that is free

  • Looking at the wall, in 2D or 3D, with the live feed, leaderboards, Hall of Clowns and dark/light themes.
  • Kissing any icon, including your own — it resets the 90-day fade and is counted publicly.
  • The deed page — plot, price paid, held-since date, views, clicks, kisses, status.
  • Rechecking your favicon after you add one, to leave the Hall of Clowns.
  • Reading the wall by APIGET /api/state returns the whole live wall as JSON; see the API page.
  • Being evicted. It costs you nothing further. It just costs you the square.

How Square Town's prices compare (as of August 2026)

Prices from the competitor landscape as verified in August 2026. Others may be cheaper per pixel or offer a free tier; the comparison is about the minimum you spend to be on the wall.

Site Minimum to be on the wall Model Recurring?
Square Town (square.pov.town) $1 for one square favicon from your URL, pick your cell no
The Million Dollar Homepage $100 (10×10 block at $1/pixel) — sold out five months after its 2005 launch image + link no
SaaSBoard 1×1 tile free; bigger blocks $10/tile/mo or $100/tile/yr uploaded logo on a 100×100 grid yes, for bigger blocks
The Forever Wall $1 per pixel image on a 1,000,000-pixel wall no
Link for a Dollar $1 per square ($4 for 2×2, $25 for 5×5) logo/initials + link no
Milliboard any amount; highest single payment holds #1 ranked list, not a grid no
3MPixel $10 (10×10 minimum at $0.10/pixel) image + link, resale marketplace no
The Logo Wall $5 one-time ($10 featured) logo + profile page no
Own the Void $1 per cell coloured cell + text on an infinite grid no

What the table doesn't show: on Square Town the $1 buys a position that can be taken from you for $2, and that mechanic — not the price — is the difference. Fine print: refunds, evictions, and what "forever" means

  • Evicted owners are not refunded. When someone pays double to take your square, that money goes to Square Town, not to you. You knew the rule when you bought; the game is the game.
  • "Forever" means no expiry and no renewal, not immunity. Your square is yours until someone evicts you. Nothing lapses on its own — Square Town runs on Cloudflare's free tier, so there is no hosting bill that could stop being paid.
  • Fading is not losing. An icon unkissed for 90 days goes grayscale but stays yours; one kiss (from anyone) restores it.
  • Unpaid checkouts reserve the cell for 30 minutes and then release it. Nothing is charged until Stripe says so.
  • The deed URL is the receipt. No accounts, so no password reset. Bookmark it.
  • Payment is by card via Stripe Checkout in USD. No crypto, no NFTs, no invoices.

FAQ

How much does one square cost?

$1, one-time, by card through Stripe. Every square is 1×1; there is nothing bigger to buy except the Throne.

Is there a subscription or renewal?

No. You pay once and the square is yours until someone evicts you. Analytics is also a one-time $5.

What does it cost to evict someone?

Exactly double what the current owner paid: $2 for a $1 square, $4 for one that was already evicted once, and so on. The Throne follows the same rule from $100.

Do I get my money back if I'm evicted?

No. The evictor's payment goes to Square Town, and your square is gone. Evictability is the core rule of the wall.

Can I buy more than one square?

Yes. Each is $1 and takes its own URL; there is no bulk discount because there is nothing to discount from.

Is Square Town cheaper than The Million Dollar Homepage?

The Million Dollar Homepage sold 10×10 blocks at $1 per pixel, so $100 minimum, and sold out five months after launching in 2005. Square Town is $1 for a single square, as of August 2026.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. $1 per square, $100 intro for the Throne, 2× to evict, $5 for per-day analytics. Kissing, viewing, rechecking, deeds and the read API are free.
