Buy a square — $1

Square Town vs The SaaS Wall: favicon squares or pixel-art logos?

Both sell a small logo on a shared wall to indie and SaaS founders. One makes you draw it in an editor at a price that climbs as the wall fills; the other fetches your favicon for a flat $1 and lets people evict you.

The SaaS Wall (thesaaswall.com) is a wall of 100-pixel blocks for SaaS products only, where you draw a pixel-art logo in a built-in editor, add a product link, and pay a banded price that starts at $0.05 per block and rises to $1 and beyond as the wall fills. Square Town (square.pov.town) is a favicon wall for any site where every square is $1, the favicon is fetched from your URL, and any square can be evicted for double. The difference: The SaaS Wall is a permanent, hand-drawn SaaS gallery with escalating prices; Square Town is a flat-priced, any-site wall with a game loop.

What The SaaS Wall does well

Early blocks are almost free. At $0.05 per block in the first band, getting on the wall costs less than Square Town's $1 — if you get there before the band moves. That's a real advantage for early movers, and a real incentive to hurry.

You draw the logo. The built-in pixel editor means your block looks exactly how you want at wall resolution, and you aren't at the mercy of whatever favicon your site serves. On Square Town, if your favicon is bad at 16 px, your square is bad at 16 px — and if you don't have one, you get a clown.

SaaS only. A curated wall of software products is easier to browse than a wall of everything. If your buyer is "people who look at SaaS walls", The SaaS Wall is on-topic by construction. Square Town accepts any URL.

Permanent. No evictions, no decay. Your block stays. As of August 2026, 123 blocks were placed.

Escalating price as a signal. Bands rising with fill tells everyone the wall is filling and rewards the people who came first. Square Town's price never rises — but its wall grows only when it's 70 % full, which is a different way of saying the same thing.

What Square Town does differently

Flat $1, forever. The price on square.pov.town is $1 for the first square and $1 for the millionth. Nothing rises with fill. What rises is the cost of taking a square: double what its owner paid, doubling again each time. Early movers get position, not a discount. See why one dollar.

Favicon fetched, not drawn. Paste a URL and Square Town pulls the icon. Zero design work, and the wall shows what your site actually looks like in a browser tab. If that's ugly, fix the favicon — it helps you everywhere, not just on the wall.

Any site, and location is the game. Square Town starts at 16×16 and unlocks a ring of 8 cells each way every time it's 70 % full, up to 1024×1024. Squares near the centre are scarce; the Throne (4×4 centre) starts at $100 and doubles per eviction. A block on The SaaS Wall is a block on The SaaS Wall.

You can be evicted. Anyone can take your square for double. Painful, but it means a wanted square has a price after purchase, the evicted site is announced in the live feed, and the wall never freezes into a museum. See what happens when you get evicted.

Kiss decay. Icons not kissed in 90 days fade to grayscale. Anyone can kiss any icon, free. Dead products fade; live ones stay coloured because someone cared.

Live, 3D, measured. Every buy, eviction, kiss and unlock is pushed to all open browsers over WebSockets. Tilt into 3D and every favicon is a tower as tall as its click count. Every deed shows views, clicks and kisses; $5 unlocks per-day charts.

Who should pick The SaaS Wall

  • You run a SaaS product and want to be on a wall of only SaaS products.
  • You want to draw your own pixel logo and control exactly how it looks.
  • You want permanence — nobody can evict you and nothing fades.
  • You get there early enough for a $0.05 block.

Who should pick Square Town

  • Your site isn't SaaS, or you have several sites (a favicon per square scales to ten side projects).
  • You want a known price — $1 — that doesn't depend on when you arrive.
  • You want zero design work: URL in, favicon out.
  • You want analytics per square and a live wall people return to. See pricing and for SaaS founders.
  • You like that position is scarce and defendable rather than permanent and static.

Can you use both?

Yes. They're the same buyer, different products: a hand-drawn permanent block on a SaaS-only wall, and a fetched-favicon contested square on an any-site wall. Many SaaS founders will do both for under $2 while the first band lasts. Square Town has no accounts, so the second costs a deed URL to bookmark. For the wider comparison, Square Town vs SaaSBoard covers the other SaaS-specific grid and pixel advertising alternatives ranks the lot.

FAQ

How much does The SaaS Wall cost?

As of August 2026, pricing is banded by fill: $0.05 per block at first, then $1 per block, with bands rising as more of the wall is taken. Check the wall for the current band.

How much does Square Town cost?

$1 per square, one-time, and it never rises with fill. Evicting an occupied square costs double what its owner paid. The Throne starts at $100. Per-day analytics on a deed is a one-time $5.

Does The SaaS Wall accept non-SaaS sites?

No — it is SaaS-only, as of August 2026. Square Town accepts any URL that resolves; sites without a favicon get a clown until they add one.

Do I have to draw a logo on Square Town?

No. Square Town fetches your site's favicon from the URL. There is no editor and no upload.

Can I be evicted from The SaaS Wall?

Not according to what the site showed in August 2026: blocks are permanent. On Square Town, any square can be evicted for double its last price.

Which is cheaper?

The SaaS Wall's first band ($0.05 per block) is cheaper than Square Town's $1 if you get in early. Once the bands rise past $1, Square Town is cheaper or equal — and Square Town's price never changes.

Buy neither for that. Square Town's clicks are counted 302 redirects through /go/:id, not link equity; treat any pixel wall as visibility to its audience, not ranking help.
